Vagüera cuvee is a 100% Doña Blanca grape from a single vineyard called El Maderal planted ungrafted in 1921. The estate of EL Maderal, 0.5ha is located just in the border of south of Toro, it doesn’t belong to the appellation though. Vaguera is Alvar’s first land that he bought and recovered in 2009, which it was abandoned since 2006. Two hectares of land at 950m in red clay and limestone soil. Alvar works it organically with some biodynamic practices. Hand harvested in cases. at the winery gently pressed, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, left for 9 months in 300-500L old barrels, eggs and foudre. Unfiltered, unclarified and a bit of sulphites before bottling. Alvar always says that this is his fullest bodied wine and we agree that. Production of 450 bottles.
