This inspiring project was implemented by Iker García. Hontza, means Owl in Basque language. This is a family run winery’s icon, regarding a couple of owls that live in the pine tree forest at Labraza, the tiny village where they live and where the winery is located. The artisanal winery is the first and the only one in Labraza. The medieval village is located East of Rioja Alavesa sub region. (Basque country). The high altitude of 650 metres above the sea is also blessed by microclimate and wide biodiversity. Their principles are based on the respect of the land as well as the enhancement of Labraza and the natural surroundings. Therefore the vineyards are Organic certified and following the biodynamic principles. The aim is to show the best expression of our terroir through our local grapes, as a result of his way of lifestyle. The grapes are hand picked and selected at the vineyard, harvested in small cases in order to preserve the grapes intact. The whole process is made in an artisanal way, with the main hands-off principle. All their wines are made spontaneously, with minimum intervention, in a natural and traditional way without sulphites added. Unfiltered and naturally clarified to guarantee all the authenticity.
