Alvaro González, Somiavins. Penedés. Organic Certified

Somiavins –Dreamwine- is the name that Alvaro González gave to his project in Penedès. He started farming in 2013 after his studies of oenology and sommelier that changed his life. He soon understood the importance of making artisanal wines with low intervention and respect of the environment. In 2016 the vineyards are Organic certified with Biodynamic practices such as 500, 501 and Maria Thun plus herbs horsetail and nettle. The vines and winery are located in High Penedès region, Catalunya, close to the sea and Mediterranean climate. He works the vineyard with the goals of regenerating the living soils; reasonable yields and manual work in the vines. He farms two hectares and two vineyards: Sant Joan Samora: 50 years old vines of white Xarel-lo grape all planted in bush, soil in here is chalky and limestone, a bit alkaline. The second vineyard is called Piera and produces only white Parellada local grape variety, planted in a limestone, sandy, and bit alkaline soil. The Parellada grape is low in alcohol and makes very elegant white wines. He picks manually the grapes in cases quite early in the harvest, to get the healthiest grapes. The goal is to achieve the best balance possible between alcohol and acidity. At the winery, Alvaro makes all his wines in an artisan way with hand-off philosophy, so the fermentation undergoes spontaneously with native yeasts, natural stabilization by cold gravity and unfiltered. Total production of 8.000 bottles per year.
