Manel Avinyó and his brother Joan started a new project in 2001. They decided to go back to his family roots, La Masia Can Ramon (farmer house), in Garraf’s mountains (natural reserve park), province of Penedès, 40km far from Barcelona. Can Ramon has been making wine since s. XIV, also cultivating olive trees and flock of sheep. But is in 1939, after the Spanish civil war, when his grandfather Tomas Ovine, went back to the land and recovered all his properties.
All the lands had been cultivating in organic since that time, and they are keen to keep it like this and leave it for the next generation. Manel follows the biodynamic method. They don’t use any pesticides or herbicides, neither copper or sulphur. They also have bees and a big respect for the micro fauna that lives across the state. They are in a previligious land and they are taking all the benefits to make sparkling wine following the traditional method and still wine as his grandfather used to make it. It has Organic viticulture certification by CCPAE (Catalan Council of Agrarian Ecological Production) and they also take part of Le Renaissance des Appellations.
